La producció agrària ecològica, denominada també biològica o orgànica, és un sistema de producció i elaboració de productes agraris naturals. L’objectiu principal és l’obtenció d’aliments de màxima qualitat.

Les tècniques utilitzades en la producció agrària ecològica són respectuoses amb el medi ambient i amb les persones perquè restringeix l’ús de productes químics de síntesi (hormones, herbicides, adobs químics, plaguicides, etc.). Per tant, els productes agraris ecològics no contenen residus d’aquestes substàncies.

La certificació és necessària per tal de garantir que el sistema de producció ecològic dels aliments arribi al consumidor amb les màximes garanties. Per això, el Consell Català de la Producció Agrària Ecològica (CCPAE) realitza controls exhaustius als operadors mitjançant auditories dels sistemes de producció i elaboració, i pren mostres dels productes per ser analitzats. D’aquesta manera es garanteix que aquests productes no han estat contaminats amb pesticides ni transgènics.

Tant el sistema de producció i elaboració com el sistema de control és comú a tots els països de la Unió Europea i està regulat pel Reglament (UE) 2018/848. A més, la Comissió Europea publica una llista amb els organismes o autoritats de control reconegudes per realitzar el control i la certificació dels productes ecològics. A Catalunya, el CCPAE és l'autoritat de control i certificació dels productes agraris i alimentaris ecològics.

Since 2005, CCPAE is a product certification authority accredited by the National Accreditation Entity (ENAC), with accreditation num. 34/C-PR067, for compliance with the UNE-EN ISO/IEC 17065 standard, which recognizes the technical competence of the Council for certification of organic production. 

This certification ensures that CCPAE apply certification systems reliably, objective and impartially, providing acceptance of marketing of certified organic catalan products both state and European level and internationally.

This goal translates into recognition within and outside Catalonia towards the prestige of organic products and farming catalan sector.

The annual maintenance of accreditation since 2005 involves constant compliance with the requirements of the Quality System according to the UNE-EN ISO/IEC 17065 standard and review it periodically to ensure its validity and efficiency.

The Catalan Council of the Organic Production (CCPAE) is the supervisory authority of Catalonia and its function is to audit and certify organic food products of this territory..

CCPAE is a public corporation with legal personality. This corporation is supported by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, Food and Natural Environment of the Government of Catalonia.

The Council figures in the list of public authorities and control agencies published annually by the European Union.

El Govern va aprovar ahir el Pla d'Acció per a l'Alimentació i l'Agricultura Ecològiques per al període 2008-2012. L'objectiu és promoure les produccions i el consum de productes i aliments ecològics a Catalunya, els beneficis socials i ambientals i la qualitat dels productes obtinguts.

La Direcció General de Comerç de la Generalitat ja ha obert el període d'inscripció per assistir a la fira Biofach 2009. Les sol·licituds s'han de presentar abans del proper 7 de juliol.
